Whitespace has announced it is working with Gloucestershire Constabulary to explore how AI can address a defined operational policing challenge, as the company expands its work across the UK policing sector. The collaboration will explore how AI can reduce administrative burden in a key policing workflow.

The project, supported by Defence Holdings as part of its sovereign AI investment strategy, will explore how AI can reduce the time spent turning interview recordings into ROTI/ROVI documentation to support the submission of prosecution files.

Recorded interviews are an important part of the investigative process, but converting the information they contain into the required documentation can create significant administrative demands for officers and staff.

Whitespace is working with Gloucestershire Constabulary to understand the existing workflow and explore where AI can provide practical support, while maintaining the governance, control and human oversight required within policing.

The collaboration reflects Whitespace’s wider approach to operational AI: starting with a clearly defined operational problem rather than applying technology for its own sake.

“There is a significant opportunity for AI within policing, but its value will come from solving real operational problems. Our work with Gloucestershire Constabulary is a good example of that approach. We’re starting with a specific workflow and exploring how AI can reduce the administrative burden around it, while ensuring the people using the capability remain in control. This builds on our existing experience working with policing and marks another step in our expansion into the sector this autumn. We see a much wider opportunity to work alongside forces to identify where trusted AI can make a practical difference to operational teams.” - Paul Jenkinson, CEO and Co-Founder of Whitespace

“Beyond this specific workflow, policing holds significant operational knowledge across audio, video, documents, investigations and review material. Making that information easier to structure, find and reuse represents a wider opportunity for AI to support operational teams, while keeping professional judgement and accountability with people. This work allows us to explore that potential in a practical setting and understand where AI can genuinely make a difference. Looking ahead, there is real potential to take what we learn from initiatives like this and identify other areas where AI could support officers and staff, while maintaining the trust, oversight and professional judgement policing requires.” - Superintendent Matthew Tite, Gloucestershire Constabulary

The Gloucestershire work forms part of Whitespace’s growing focus on UK policing, building on its existing experience in the sector and its wider work developing AI for complex operational environments.

As part of that expansion, Whitespace is also working closely with Microsoft as a strategic technology partner, bringing together Whitespace’s operational AI expertise with Microsoft’s technology and established presence across UK policing.

Whitespace will continue that conversation at the Emergency Tech Show on 16–17 September, where it will exhibit alongside Microsoft and demonstrate Operational Learning, a separate capability developed and proven in defence.

On Wednesday, 16 September, Whitespace Head of New Markets Marcus Ralphs will be joined by Superintendent Matthew Tite of Gloucestershire Constabulary and Professor David McIlhatton of Coventry University for The Hidden Cost of Lost Operational Knowledge on the Microsoft Partner Stage.
